Poured Concrete

Poured Concrete

What people see at first sight will create an impression of you, and your property, and it will be an impression that stands the test of time.
Many of our customers are very impressed with the quality, standard of workmanship, and attention to detail they receive when having their soakwells installed, prompting them to also ask for a concreting quote.
Many of these jobs are for driveways, and concrete paths down the side of properties, as per the one in the photos on this page.
We offer a number of surface options and colours, with concrete and poured aggregate being the most common. We don't actually offer liquid limestone as a surface option, as experience has taught us that it tends to discolour over the years, and also absorbs stains, and spills dramatically more that other products on the market. However we can offer a concrete product that looks almost identical, but has the stregtth and durability that you would associate with concrete

As we have already assisted you with your soakwells we are very confident we can offer a highly competitive rate for any concrete works you may require

Why choose concrete?

People choose concrete over other products for a number of reasons, the main reason being that it is very strong and hard wearing and if poured correctly will last a lifetime. It also doesn't stain and lose its colour over time, like liquid limestone, and many of the different brands of paving stone. Unlike pavers, concrete does not dislodge, and move over time, there are also no gaps for weeds to grow through. But most of all correctly poured, and worked coloured concrete, or exposed aggregate concrete will provide a striking, stunning talking point for your property.

Concrete laying information

All concrete is usually laid to a thickness of 100 mm and it is recommended to use steel reinforcing mesh in any concrete that will have vehicular traffic, or heavy weight loads, the only exception is exposed aggregate or polished concrete which should have mesh in all of it regardless of weight loads or were it is placed. Control joints are also standard, on many jobs they are small thin lines cut into concrete with ether a hand tool wile the concrete is still fresh or a concrete saw after the concrete has set. Control joints are placed in concrete not only to accentuate the look, and enhance the pattern, but also to create a weak point for the concrete to crack naturally where it cannot be seen. Without control joints even with the most extreme measures taken to prevent cracking, concrete cannot be guaranteed to not crack. Expansion joints or expansion foam is sometimes used which is a 10 mm soft foam with is placed in straight lines in certain points in concrete or around walls to give the concrete some room for expansion and contraction Most concrete is sealed after it has set with a high quality sealer to give it that nice wet look shiny finish and to also further protect it from the elements and staining from car oil, tree sap and bore water etc.

Types of concrete

We offer a large variety of coloured concrete, from black to white, grey to cream and blues to reds, to name but a few. For Coloured concrete we offer 3 main finishes;

Limited Slip Finish: This is a slightly rougher finish than normal, in a figure of 8, or swirl pattern. Limited slip is ideal for areas that may become wet, or experience high pedestrian or vehicular traffic as it offers excellent grip.

Smooth Trowel Finish: This is a very flat smooth finish which is ideal for protected areas as it may become slippery when wet, it also provides a very easy surface to keep clean, so it is low maintenance.

Brush/Broom Finish:  This is a slightly rougher finish that also provides excellent grip but is infrequently used today because of its old style. However it is still commonly used for shire footpaths and crossovers etc.

Exposed aggregate is when the surface of the concrete is washed away to reveal the stones and aggregates in the concrete there are many different combinations of stone colours and cement colours available. Polished concrete is very similar except instead of the surface being washed away, we actually grind it away after the concrete has set to give a much smoother finish.
