Soakwells Repairs

Repairs

One of the many aspects of the business, is the upkeep and repair of poorly performing soakwells. On this page are three photographs of a recent problem, and the solution

1. A poorly installed soakwell can be seen here, the paving above it had sagged very badly, and there was a large hole starting to appear over the soakwell. After removing the paving the problem became all too clear. Whoever had installed the original soakwell had simply used an old plastic tub, with a hand made hole in it. As a result there were no drainage holes, and the water had no where to go to. In addition there was a very poorly fitting lid, which had allowed sand to enter the soakwell over the years, resulting in the soakwell being almost half full of sand. The soakwell was only attached to a small pergola roof, so only covered 15 square metres of roof space. We went about removing the faulty soakwell.

2. Once the poorly performing soakwell had been removed, we laid down a 100 mm deep bed of blue metal, and lowered a new reinforced upvc soakwell into the ground, to rest on the blue metal. This was then compacted around. The new soakwell came complete with a soakwell sock (check out the Upvc page for more details) and a tight fitting lid, thus allowing it to empty freely, and stopping any sand from entering the soakwell. The soakwell was now ready to start working efficiently.

3. With all the work complete it just remained for us to compact the sand over the soakwell to leave a nice level bed for the owner to pave over. With a ten year warranty offered with all our products, once your soakwells are installed, you really can sit back and forget about them.
